Are you a passionate culinary leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and loves delivering exceptional dining experiences? We are looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our team and play a key role in leading both our Bistro and Events operations.
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will be responsible for driving food quality, leading service, developing your team, and ensuring the seamless execution of events ranging from intimate functions to large-scale banquets. This is a hands-on leadership role with genuine opportunities to influence menus, improve operations, and contribute to the ongoing success of one of the region's leading hospitality venues.
About The Role
As Sous Chef, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the kitchen, ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation across both Bistro service and event catering.
You will lead from the front during service, support the development of your team, and work collaboratively with Events and Operations teams to deliver memorable guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support kitchen operations across Bistro and Events
- Inspire, coach, and develop kitchen team members to maintain high standards
- Execute and oversee catering for functions, banquets, buffets, canapés, and plated events
- Assist with menu development and implementation of new food concepts
- Drive consistency through strong portion control and food quality standards
- Manage food costs, minimise wastage, and contribute to labour efficiency
- Coordinate event production planning, preparation, and service execution
- Ensure compliance with food safety, WHS, and company standards
- Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure a clean, organised work environment
- Step into the Head Chef role when required, providing leadership and operational direction
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A Trade Qualification in Commercial Cookery
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or senior kitchen leader in a high-volume operation
- Strong experience delivering functions, events, or banqueting services
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop kitchen teams
- Sound understanding of food costing, portion control, labour management, and kitchen workflows
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- A hands-on approach with a strong focus on quality, consistency, and guest satisfaction
- Availability to work a flexible roster including evenings, weekends, and peak trading periods
