About the opportunity
QLS has a Full-Time, 12-Month Fixed-Term opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join our Licensing team within the Regulation Division.
The Licensing team plays a key role in delivering QLS's regulatory responsibilities under the Legal Profession Act 2007. The team works to ensure the integrity of the legal profession and the protection of the public by assessing practitioner suitability and managing a range of complex legal matters.
This is a unique opportunity for someone looking to apply their legal expertise in a different way. Working at the intersection of regulation, professional standards and public interest, you'll be trusted to assess complex matters, provide strategic legal advice and contribute to important decisions that impact the profession. The work is varied, intellectually stimulating and often sensitive, requiring sound judgment, strong analytical skills and a balanced approach.
In this role you will
- Investigate and assess complex matters that may impact a practitioner's suitability to practise, exercising sound judgement and a commitment to procedural fairness.
- Prepare high-quality submissions, recommendations and briefing materials to support significant regulatory and administrative decisions.
- Provide expert legal advice on complex and sensitive matters, drawing on strong analytical and legislative interpretation skills.
- Manage a diverse portfolio of regulatory matters, balancing competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and attention to detail.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, government agencies and members of the profession.
- Contribute to regulatory policy, continuous improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of best-practice regulatory processes.
Ideally you will have the following
- A Bachelor of Laws and at least 5 years' post-admission experience.
- Experience managing complex legal matters within private practice, government, in-house, litigation, commercial, regulatory or administrative law environments.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess evidence and form balanced, defensible recommendations.
- Excellent written communication skills and experience preparing detailed legal advice, submissions or decision-making materials.
- The confidence to work autonomously, manage sensitive matters and engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
- A current practising certificate, or eligibility to obtain an unrestricted practising certificate in Queensland.
- Experience in litigation, investigations, professional regulation, disciplinary matters, administrative decision-making or government environments will be highly regarded.
