Role Description
This full-time, on-site Cable Hauler / Excavator Operator role is based in Melbourne, VIC. The position involves operating excavators to complete trenching and civil works for cable installation. Day-to-day tasks include setting out and excavating trenches, installing conduits, hauling and laying cables, digging around live services and backfilling and compacting excavations in line with project specifications. The role also involves pre-start checks, routine equipment maintenance, and safe operation in accordance with company procedures and relevant regulations. In this role you will also support with Cable Hauling tasks outside of operationg the machines. The Cable Hauler / Excavator Operator will collaborate with site supervisors and other team members to deliver projects safely, on time, and to quality standards.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Equipment Operation and Heavy Equipment use, including safe and efficient operation of excavators and related machinery.
- Demonstrated experience in Excavation and Trench work for civil or electrical installations.
- Knowledge of Equipment Maintenance, including conducting pre-start inspections
- Understanding of safe work practices, OHS requirements, and working around underground services.
- Relevant tickets and licenses (e.g., excavator ticket, white card, driver’s license); additional plant tickets are an advantage.
- Ability to read and follow site plans, instructions, and job specifications.
- Reliable team player with effective communication skills and a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
- Previous experience in civil construction, utilities, or electrical infrastructure projects is highly regarded.
