We support the delivery of person-centred, connected healthcare through the development and adoption of digital health services and systems. Our work includes managing My Health Record, Electronic prescriptions, and the 1800MEDICARE app, ensuring a healthier future for all Australians through connected healthcare.

About the Role

We’re looking for a strategic and proactive Assistant Director, Media and Public Relations to help drive the Agency’s reputation and storytelling.

This is a high-impact opportunity to work in a fast-paced, issues-driven environment where your communication expertise will directly support national health priorities.

You’ll play a central role in managing the Agency’s public profile by:

  • Leading proactive and reactive media engagement, including handling enquiries, issues management and rapid responses
  • Developing and delivering media and PR strategies, campaigns and content
  • Advising senior executives on media engagement, messaging and reputation risks
  • Coordinating media opportunities, announcements and stakeholder engagement activities

What you'll bring

You’re an experienced communications professional who thrives under pressure and can confidently engage with senior stakeholders.

We’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in media, PR, journalism or strategic communications
  • Strong ability to manage media enquiries and produce high-quality content quickly and accurately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including briefing materials, talking points and media responses
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering PR strategies and managing reputational issues
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and sound judgement in sensitive situations
  • Experience leading people or coordinating external providers
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in government, health or complex public sector environments
  • Exposure to issues management and after-hours media response

Salary: This role offers between $124,583 - $142,089 plus 15.4% superannuation depending on skills and experience.
