About the opportunity
A Government entity is seeking a Finance Analyst to join a collaborative finance team responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial information. This role exists to support decision making at various levels, with a strong focus on transparency and fiscal responsibility. The organisation is committed to maintaining financial integrity while aligning all activities with government goals and funding requirements.
The core purpose of the role is to prepare financial reports and forecasts that help guide both operational and strategic choices. Working closely with internal stakeholders, the Finance Analyst will assist with budgeting activities that are directly linked to government objectives. Beyond producing numbers, the role exists to provide clear insights and practical advice on financial issues, helping leaders understand the implications of their decisions before they are made.
Responsibilities
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports and forecasts
Assist with budgeting processes to ensure alignment with government objectives
Provide insights and advice on financial issues to managers and non finance stakeholders
Maintain strong stakeholder relationships to support collaborative decision making
Ensure financial data is timely, accurate, and fit for purpose
Manage General Ledger and reconciliation processes as part of regular financial close activities
Use Advanced Excel to manipulate, analyse, and present financial data efficiently
Apply SAP for financial transactions, reporting, and data extraction
Perform financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas requiring attention
Demonstrate integrity, communication, customer service, problem solving, and effective use of technology
Essential requirements
A degree in Finance, or equivalent experience gained through relevant work in a similar role
Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and working with large data sets
Hands on experience using SAP for financial tasks such as reporting, journal entries, or data retrieval
Proven ability to perform financial analysis and translate findings into plain language advice
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a focus on building productive working relationships
Demonstrated integrity in handling sensitive or confidential financial information
Good written and verbal communication skills
A customer service approach when assisting internal stakeholders
Problem solving ability, particularly when reconciling data or addressing discrepancies
Comfort and competence with using technology and financial systems
Desirable requirements
Previous experience working in a government or public sector finance role
Familiarity with budgeting processes that link to government outcomes or policy goals
