Gidgee Healing is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service delivering culturally appropriate, holistic care across Northwest and Lower Gulf Queensland.

We are looking for a passionate Community and Youth Engagement Officer to support headspace Mount Isa, working directly with young people and the community to improve mental health awareness and access to services.

About the Role

In this hands-on role, you’ll help deliver community engagement, youth participation and health promotion activities. You’ll work closely with young people, schools and community organisations to promote headspace services and encourage help-seeking behaviours.

You will play an important role in creating a welcoming, inclusive and culturally safe environment for young people aged 12–25.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of community engagement and outreach activities
  • Assist with workshops, school presentations, events and campaigns
  • Build relationships with young people, schools and community stakeholders
  • Support Youth Reference Group activities and youth participation
  • Help develop social media and promotional content
  • Represent headspace at community events
  • Support young people to access appropriate services
  • Maintain activity records and reporting requirements
  • Contribute to a safe, welcoming and youth-friendly environment

About You

You are a motivated and approachable individual with a passion for working with young people and making a difference in your community.

You will bring

  • Certificate IV (or higher) in Youth Work, Community Services, Mental Health or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience working with young people in community, health or youth services
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Good organisational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • A culturally safe, youth-focused approach to service delivery

Desirable

  • Experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health or youth mental health
  • Knowledge of the Mount Isa community
  • Experience with social media or health promotion

Requirements

  • Current C Class Driver Licence
  • Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
  • National Police Check
  • Availability for some after-hours and weekend work
  • Willingness to travel, including outreach and remote communities
