Responsible for the management of health and welfare of the living animal collection at the Alice Springs desert Park

and record keeping across this collection.

1. Provide veterinary services to the Alice Springs Desert Park (ASDP) living Zoological collection.

2. Diagnose and treat health problems in collection animals and liaise with other zoo staff on the care and progress

of these animals

3. Undertake necropsy of dead specimens and provide husbandry recommendations to the Manager Zoology based

on these results.

4. Responsible for the control and use of, and access to, all restricted and other prescription drugs.

5. Assist with providing nutritional advice and updating of collection animal diets as required.

6. Manage preventative medicine and quarantine actions across the zoological collection.

7. Manage ZIMS Zoological data base and record keeping for the Zoological collection.

1. Degree in Veterinary science and ability to practice as a registered veterinarian in the Northern Territory.

2. Established skills and sound knowledge of zoo/wildlife medicine

3. Knowledge and understanding of preventative medicine actions in a zoological setting.

4. Proven ability to establish and maintain strong, constructive and professional relationships with other staff and

external stakeholders through effective communication and interpersonal skills.

5. Ability to effectively manage workload, priority conflicts and interpersonal relationships in a complex and changing

work schedule.

6. Ability to use and manage zoological data base.

7. High level ability to communicate orally and in writing.

8. Current NT Driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one.

1. Post graduate qualification in Wildlife medicine

2. At least two years’ experience as a clinical veterinarian.
