Primary objective

Develop and implement policies, procedures, and practices to support and increase the Prisoner Employment Program. Conduct

regular site visits to potential employers in the Darwin region to increase employment opportunities for eligible prisoners. Supervise

the Prisoner Employment Officers to ensure the effective management of the Prisoner Employment Program.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Sound Knowledge and understanding of Job Service providers and Government funding along, with an understanding of current

Industry Skill shortages.

2. Develop and maintain successful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to implement programs, policies and

procedures that promote and support the prisoner employment program in line with the Correctional Services through-care

framework.

3. Conduct regular site visits to potential employers in the Darwin area to increase employment opportunities for eligible prisoners.

4. Contribute to Individual Offender Management plans by providing information on individual prisoner’s participation in the

employment program.

5. Liaise with departmental officers, employers, and other relevant stakeholders to monitor and support the prisoner’s

participation in the employment program to ensure the safety of the community and prisoner.

6. Provide effective supervision to subordinate staff to ensure the effective management of the Prisoner employment program.

7. Oversight the development and growth of the Prisoner Employment Program to promote and support the successful

reintegration of prisoners in the community in line with Correctional Services policies and procedures for the management of

prisoners.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Interpersonal skills of a high order especially the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people at all levels

including Indigenous Australians as well as other culturally diverse groups.

2. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

3. Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills.

4. Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage own performance and work with initiative to achieve expected outcomes

with minimal supervision.

5. Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing prisoners in accessing and maintaining employment.

6. A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of case management practices and motivational interviewing principles.

7. Knowledge of computer, electronic media, and software package applications including MS Office word processing,

spreadsheets and data bases.

Desirable

1. Knowledge and understanding of the requirement and limitations of working within a complex secure environment.

2. Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures and computer systems relating to the Department

of Correctional Services.
