Established in 2021, Metzner Project Management (MPM) is a dynamic project management consultancy committed to delivering tailored construction project solutions across both the public and private sectors in NSW and Europe. Our approach is client-oriented, practical, and results-driven. Following recent successful project acquisitions, we are experiencing sustained growth and are seeking a motivated, ambitious team member to grow with us and help shape the future of our young company.

About the Role

Are you an experienced project manager with an engineering background who thrives in a challenging, fast-paced consulting environment?

Reporting directly to the Director, you will act as a Client-Side Representative managing a diverse portfolio of multidisciplinary engineering, capital construction, and critical asset management projects across the Newcastle, Hunter, and Central Coast region. You will step into a highly versatile role, project-managing works typically ranging in value from $500k to $40 million, and/or providing specialised project engineering services for major infrastructure developments up to $200 million.

Operating within a boutique consulting environment, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering principles, heavy industrial operations, and local government frameworks. This role involves splitting time between client offices and active construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-To-End Project Delivery: Lead projects from inception to completion, spanning initiation, planning, due diligence, engineering/design phases, development approvals, tendering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final close-out.
  • Technical & Quality Oversight: Apply your engineering background to review technical designs, assess structural or electrical asset integrity, solve complex on-site challenges, and maintain rigorous quality management.
  • Asset Management Strategy: Develop and implement strategic frameworks in support of efficient maintenance plans and renewal programs for public critical infrastructure to maximize lifecycles and minimize operational risk.
  • HSEQ Leadership: Directly manage WHS and environmental standards on-site, fostering a proactive zero-harm culture in line with heavy-industry and municipal regulations.
  • Commercial & Contract Control: Administer public and private contract mechanisms (e.g., AS4000, GC21); spearhead commercial negotiations, variations, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Consultative Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary, trusted point of contact for council representatives, industrial plant operators, contractors, and delivery teams.

What You Will Bring

  • Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10+ years of project management or delivery experience, ideally working within a consultancy environment or directly on the client side.
  • Sector Expertise: Proven experience operating on active construction sites within:

a. Local Government Frameworks: Public works, municipal utilities, and civil infrastructure, specifically

Water & Sewer assets.

b. Heavy Industry: Delivering complex engineering and construction projects in manufacturing, mining,

or port environments.

  • Operational Mindset: A proactive, self-motivated, "can-do" attitude with the ability to multitask, managing multiple projects and clients simultaneously while maintaining an outstanding attention to detail.
  • Logistics & Rights: You must be legally permitted to work in Australia permanently and hold a valid NSW driver's license.

What’s on Offer

  • Attractive Remuneration: A competitive base package of $145k - $160k (inclusive of super), tailored to your experience level.
  • Diverse Consulting Portfolio: Avoid getting pigeonholed. Leverage a diverse client base to work on a wide variety of high-impact community infrastructure and heavy industrial assets.
  • Direct Mentoring & Career Trajectory: Receive direct support and mentoring from the Director, with genuine opportunities to step into senior leadership roles and help shape this growing company.
  • Unbeatable Lifestyle & Balance: Build a premier consulting career in a booming regional economic hub, while enjoying the relaxed, coastal lifestyle that the Newcastle and Central Coast regions offer. Standard ordinary work hours are 40 hours per week, 5 days a week, with the opportunity to work additional hours (to be agreed prior).
