About the Opportunity We are partnering with our client, a progressive Western Sydney local government council, to recruit a Technical Project Manager - Fleet, Innovation & Technology. Sitting within the City Fleet unit, this role leads multi-million-dollar projects at the forefront of public sector asset innovation-including transitioning to EV/hydrogen heavy vehicles, advanced telematics, and workshop digitalisation.
Responsibilities
- Project Delivery: Lead the planning, scoping, and end-to-end delivery of complex fleet, plant, and innovation initiatives within budget and timeline baselines.
- Engineering & Asset Management: Translate operational needs into technical specifications for heavy vehicles (e.g., refuse vehicles, sweepers). Apply ISO 55000 strategies to optimise life-cycle costs and asset uptime.
- Sustainability & Innovation: Execute trials for zero-emission vehicles, manage charging infrastructure rollouts, and develop fleet transition roadmaps.
- Telematics & Digital Data: Oversee the telematics/IoT roadmap, integrate tracking data with enterprise systems ( TechOne), and drive workshop digitalisation.
- Procurement & Contracts: Lead end-to-end sourcing under the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW), authoring technical specifications and managing vendor performance.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure strict compliance with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), NHVR Chain of Responsibility (CoR), and WHS regulations.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, Electrical), Project Management, or equivalent experience.
- Proven delivery of multi-million-dollar fleet, plant, or heavy infrastructure projects in safety-critical environments.
- Strong knowledge of HVNL/NHVR CoR, vehicle standards, and ISO asset management (ISO 55000).
- Strong background in writing technical specifications and managing tenders under NSW Local Government guidelines.
- Experience with telematics, IoT analytics, and enterprise resource tools (e.g., TechOne).
- Current Class C driver licence.
Nice to have:
- PRINCE2 or PMP certification.
- Experience with EV/hydrogen deployments, refuse fleet specs, or Net Zero grant processes.
This role is a 6 month contract based in Western Sydney and can pay up to $550 incl. Super per day. Please note only applicants with full working rights will be considered for this role.
