About the organisation

This Queensland Government agency is one of the state's most significant primary production and natural resources bodies, responsible for supporting the economic backbone of Queensland's rural and regional communities. With reach spanning agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity, and natural resource management, the organisation influences billions of dollars in industry output each year.

The finance function sits at the heart of a large, complex enterprise that manages significant capital infrastructure across the state — from research stations and laboratories to field operations. The Strategic Investments & Enterprise Finance division provides high-level strategic and technical financial services, working closely with Queensland Treasury and senior leadership to ensure robust financial governance and accountability.

About the role

Working within the Capital Maintenance and Asset Accounting Team, you will:

  • Prepare and analyse monthly capital project reports, reconciliations, and briefing notes, delivering insights and recommendations to senior management
  • Contribute to the development and review of capital management policies and procedures in line with the Government's financial management framework
  • Provide timely, expert advice on asset policies for Capital Work-in-Progress, grounded in Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury requirements
  • Ensure the agency's annual capital budget and revisions are accurately reflected in Queensland Treasury Budget Papers, Tridata, and internal records
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with senior management, Queensland Treasury, and external service providers
  • Work with the finance team to develop and maintain effective internal controls over capital processes and asset accounting
  • Stay current with accounting regulations and industry best practices in capital asset accounting

What we're looking for

A technically sharp, detail-focused finance professional with solid experience in capital and asset accounting, ideally within a government or large complex organisation. You'll be confident working independently, communicating financial matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders, and navigating public sector frameworks with ease.

Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury financial reporting requirements will set you apart.

Highly desirable: CPA, CA (ICAA), or MIPA membership with the Institute of Public Accountants.

Key selection criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience with capital budget management
  2. Proficiency in ERP/financial systems — hands-on experience with enterprise financial systems (e.g. SAP, TechOne, Oracle) for asset accounting, capital WIP tracking, and journal processing.
  3. Experience with government financial management frameworks
  4. Analytical and problem-solving ability
  5. Experience supporting audit processes
