Construction Law Lawyer
AWCON
AWCON is a rapidly growing civil construction contractor delivering complex projects across the mining and heavy industry sectors. With a proven track record on projects ranging from $1M to $100M+, we partner with Tier 1 clients across Australia and continue to expand our national footprint.
We’re seeking a pragmatic, commercially minded Lawyer with a background in Construction Law to join our team on a part-time basis. This role is ideally suited to someone returning to the workforce who wants to re-engage in meaningful, high-level work - without the demands of full-time private practice.
The Opportunity
Working closely with our Senior Leadership Team, project and commercial teams, you’ll provide practical, day-to-day legal support across the business, including complex civil, mining and infrastructure projects.
You’ll play a key role in managing contractual risk, supporting tender submissions, and providing clear, timely advice that enables delivery - without slowing momentum.
This is not a back-office legal role - you’ll be embedded in the commercial and operational side of the business, contributing directly to project outcomes.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
· Review and negotiate head contracts and subcontractor agreements
· Identify, assess and advise on key commercial and contractual risks
· Support tender submissions, including preparation of contract departures
· Assist with Security of Payment claims and adjudications
· Provide guidance on delay, defect and variation matters
· Support dispute resolution across construction and engineering projects
· Work closely with project teams to ensure contract alignment with delivery strategy
What We’re Looking For
· Degree-qualified Lawyer
· Experience in Construction Law (contractor-side advantageous)
· Strong ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes
· Clear, confident communicator able to simplify complex issues
· Comfortable working autonomously while partnering with operational teams
· Practical, solutions-focused mindset suited to a fast-paced delivery environment
What You’ll Get
This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact role within a growing contractor delivering complex, large-scale projects.
You’ll have the flexibility to work within school hours, while still contributing at a senior level - supporting real project outcomes, not just providing advice from the sidelines.
It’s a role for someone who wants to stay sharp, stay relevant, and be part of a team that values practical thinking and strong commercial judgement.
If you’re looking to return to the workforce or reshape your career into something more flexible - while still working on complex, high-value projects - we’d love to hear from you.
