Your new role
Environmental Health Officer
In this role, you will protect public health and support a safe, healthy and attractive environment for our community in line with statutory obligations, Council policies and procedures.
You will work directly with the community to protect, promote and improve public health while contributing to the Town’s economic and social vitality.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or other equivalent qualification suitable for appointment as an authorised officer under section 24 of Public Health Act 2016 and Section 87 & 88 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
- sound knowledge of statutory provisions relating to environmental health.
- sound administrative and organisational skills, with high attention to detail.
- ability to take initiative while working autonomously in a busy environment.
- flexibility to work on weekends and outside regular office hours.
- working knowledge of processes, programs and policies relevant to environmental health.
- excellent verbal communication and negotiation skills, with an ability to build constructive working relationships.
- current WA driver’s licence.

Environmental Health Support Officer
(For applicants currently studying Environmental Health)
In this developmental role, you’ll assist Environmental Health Officers by supporting inspections, monitoring activities and sampling programs across the Town’s diverse public health areas.
- Assist officers with inspections to ensure compliance with the Public Health Act 2016, relevant guidelines and statutory requirements.
- Ensure food for sale is safe through inspections, monitoring and sampling techniques in line with Food Safety Standards.
- Undertake public swimming pool and recreational water sampling and inspections.
- Contribute to a positive team culture aligned with the organisation’s values.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Currently completing a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health), Diploma of Environmental Health, or equivalent qualification recognised for future gazettal as an EHO in WA.
- Foundational understanding of environmental health legislation, codes and standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
- Good administrative, organisational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and in a busy team environment.
- Flexibility to work weekends and outside usual hours.
- Current WA driver’s licence.
