Artificial Intelligence Engineer
Appoint Pty Ltd
About the Business
A growing technology information company is looking to strengthen its data and AI foundations as it scales. The business curates and delivers high-value intelligence products to a diverse client base, and has reached a point in its growth where the quality, speed and connectivity of its internal data capability has become a genuine competitive advantage.
Investment is underway to modernise how the business uses data across its operations, with a clear mandate to move from fragmented reporting and manual processes toward an integrated, AI-augmented environment. This is an opportunity to join at the right moment and leave a real mark on how the business makes decisions.
About the Role
Reporting into senior leadership, you will take primary ownership of the build. This is not a governance or strategy role; it is an execution role for someone who enjoys working close to the tools and seeing tangible outcomes from their work.
You will architect and deliver the data infrastructure that connects financial, operational and content data into a coherent and trustworthy foundation, then layer on AI capability that puts that data to work for end users across the business.
Day to day, you can expect to
- Design, build and maintain data pipelines and a centralised data platform that serves reporting and analytical needs across the business
- Develop a unified data model that brings together finance, operations and content data in a consistent and governed way
- Build an AI-powered query interface that allows non-technical users to interrogate enterprise data using plain language, with appropriate access controls and audit trails
- Deliver self-service reporting capability through Power BI, including semantic modelling, DAX measures and row-level security
- Reduce manual effort in financial reporting and reconciliation through automation and well-engineered data flows
- Define and maintain standards for how data and AI tools move from prototype to production, including monitoring and accountability frameworks
- Connect external data feeds and third-party content sources into the central platform
- Ensure privacy, security and compliance requirements are built into solutions from the start, not bolted on afterward
- About You
- You are a builder. You are comfortable working independently, comfortable making decisions and comfortable being accountable for outcomes.
Beyond that, you will likely have
- A background in data or analytics engineering with meaningful experience delivering in production environments
- Fluency in Python and SQL and the discipline to write code that others can maintain
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms, ideally including Microsoft Fabric
- Solid Power BI skills, particularly around semantic layers, DAX and security models
- Exposure to large language model applications in a real-world context, whether through RAG architectures, agentic systems or similar
- The ability to engage confidently with stakeholders who have varying levels of technical literacy
- A practical mindset that prioritises working solutions over perfect ones
