FMS Group is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented

Safety Coordinator to support our labour services, mining maintenance, fabrication and project operations.

Reporting to the General Manager FMS Group West, this role is responsible for supporting the implementation of our Safety Management System through a combination of field engagement, risk management, incident management and the administration required to demonstrate compliance and continual improvement.

This position will suit someone who enjoys being visible in the field, building relationships with operational teams and ensuring the documentation, records and systems behind safety are maintained to a high standard.

About The Role

The Safety Coordinator will work closely with operational leaders and employees to support safe work practices, legislative compliance and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

The role includes regular travel to operational sites and our Henderson workshop while also maintaining the critical administrative functions that provide evidence of effective safety management.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Systems & Compliance

  • Support implementation and continual improvement of the company's Safety Management System
  • Maintain safety records, registers and compliance documentation
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, client standards and company procedures
  • Support preparation for client audits and compliance reviews
  • Maintain controlled safety documentation and records

Incident Management & Corrective Actions

  • Coordinate incident, hazard and near-miss reporting processes
  • Support our teams conduct incident investigations
  • Assist with 5 Whys and ICAM investigations where required
  • Analyse safety trends and identify improvement opportunities

Risk Management

  • Assist with development and review of risk assessments, SWMS, JHAs and safety management plans
  • Support verification of critical controls and fatal risk management processes
  • Participate in workplace inspections and field-based risk assessments
  • Assist operational teams in implementing practical risk controls

Field Safety Support

  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety interactions and observations
  • Provide coaching and guidance to coordinators, supervisors and employees
  • Support implementation of safety initiatives and improvement programs
  • Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks and safety meetings
  • Promote positive safety behaviours and workforce engagement

Administration & Reporting

A component of this role involves maintaining the records and systems that demonstrate compliance and effective safety management.

This Includes

  • Monitoring systems and databases to progressing incidents, hazards, actions NCRs, etc
  • Preparing monthly safety reports and KPI dashboards
  • Monitoring leading and lagging indicators
  • Maintaining audit schedules and records
  • Coordinating document reviews and revisions
  • Managing safety statistics, data analysis and reporting requirements

Workers Compensation & Return To Work

  • Assist with injury management and return-to-work processes
  • Maintain workers compensation documentation and records
  • Liaise with employees, supervisors and rehabilitation providers as required

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a safety professional who understands that effective safety management requires both strong field engagement and excellent administrative discipline.

Essential Requirements

Qualification in Workplace Health & Safety or related discipline

Current Driver's Licence

Experience in a Safety Coordinator, Safety Advisor or similar role

Strong understanding of risk management principles

High level administrative and organisational skills

Experience maintaining safety records, reports and compliance documentation

Strong written communication and report-writing ability

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management systems

Ability to engage effectively with employees, supervisors and managers

Highly Regarded

  • Mining, maintenance, fabrication or heavy industry experience
  • ICAM Investigation Training
  • Return to Work Coordinator experience
  • Internal Auditor qualification
  • Experience with ISO 45001 Safety Management Systems
  • Experience analysing safety performance data and trends
