Reliable Engineer

Sharp & Carter

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will focus on improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime and embedding best-practice asset care across a large manufacturing operation.

This is not a role for someone who simply produces reports and recommendations. The successful candidate will be expected to analyse data, identify opportunities, investigate root causes and work with site teams to implement sustainable solutions that improve reliability, efficiency and asset performance.

You will have access to significant operational and maintenance data and will be supported initially to understand site priorities. The expectation is that you quickly develop into a trusted technical resource who can operate autonomously and deliver measurable results.

The business is looking for someone who can identify opportunities, engage stakeholders and drive outcomes rather than waiting for direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse reliability and maintenance data to identify equipment performance improvement opportunities.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Drive asset reliability initiatives to improve uptime, OEE and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Support the implementation and execution of site asset care and reliability strategies.
  • Work closely with maintenance, production and engineering teams to deliver sustainable improvements.
  • Support planned maintenance optimisation, critical spares management and equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Lead breakdown analysis and identify long-term solutions to recurring issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, waste reduction and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Support capital projects, equipment upgrades and new equipment implementation.
  • Ensure engineering activities are completed in accordance with safety, food quality and compliance requirements.

The Ideal Candidate For This Position Will Have Experience In The Following

  • 3-5+ years' experience in a Reliability Engineer, Reliability Specialist, Asset Engineer or similar role.
  • Demonstrated success improving equipment reliability and delivering measurable maintenance outcomes.
  • Mechanical or electrical technical background, with engineering qualifications advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience within manufacturing, FMCG, food, beverage, packaging, or similarly complex production environments.
  • Strong understanding of reliability methodologies, root cause analysis and asset management principles.
  • Experience using CMMS systems and maintenance performance data to drive improvements.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and manage multiple improvement initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to influence teams across operations, maintenance and engineering.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with a focus on execution and delivering results rather than analysis alone.
  • A mindset centred around ownership, continuous improvement and making things happen.
