The Windows Server Engineer is responsible for the delivery, administration, maintenance and continuous improvement of Windows Server infrastructure services that support the Client’s core technology environment. The role contributes to the reliability, security, performance and lifecycle management of server platforms in alignment with agreed service levels, operational standards and strategic objectives.

Job overview

Working collaboratively with infrastructure, cloud, cyber security and project delivery teams, the position supports the implementation of infrastructure solutions across on-premises and cloud-hosted environments. The role contributes specialist technical expertise to migration and transformation initiatives, ensuring services are delivered in accordance with operational, governance and security requirements.

The position requires strong technical capability across Windows Server technologies, experience supporting enterprise-scale environments and the ability to manage competing priorities in complex operational settings. The Windows Server Engineer also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives through automation, standardisation and AI-enabled operational practices that improve efficiency, resilience and service quality.

Key responsibilities

  1. Administer, maintain and support enterprise Windows Server environments, ensuring high availability, performance, resilience and security across physical, virtualised and cloud-hosted infrastructure platforms.
  2. Deliver infrastructure migration and transformation activities, including server deployments, upgrades, decommissioning and remediation activities in alignment with project and operational requirements.
  3. Monitor and manage server infrastructure performance, capacity, patching, backup and recovery processes to ensure operational continuity and compliance with service management standards.
  4. Contribute to the implementation and optimisation of infrastructure automation, scripting and AI-enabled operational practices to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort and support proactive service management.
  5. Support the management of hybrid infrastructure environments, including integration with cloud services, identity platforms, storage systems and enterprise monitoring solutions.

Required skills / Experience

  1. Demonstrated experience administering and supporting enterprise Windows Server environments within complex organisational settings.
  2. Strong technical knowledge of Windows Server technologies, virtualisation platforms, Active Directory, server lifecycle management and infrastructure operations.
  3. Experience supporting and maintaining enterprise Windows Server platforms and services, supporting infrastructure migration, upgrade and transformation initiatives within large-scale or hybrid hosting environments.
  4. Demonstrated capability in automation, scripting and modern operational practices to improve service reliability, efficiency and operational outcomes.
  5. Experience monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure incidents and technical problems in accordance with operational support requirements.
  6. Knowledge of infrastructure security principles, vulnerability remediation, supporting secure and compliant infrastructure operations, and compliance requirements relevant to enterprise technology environments and experience delivering reliable infrastructure operations and migration activities.
