Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital

This hands-on role offers variety and responsibility, from caring for gardens and grounds to maintaining reticulation systems and coordinating specialist horticultural activities. You'll play a key role in keeping the hospital environment at its best through weed and pest management, lawn fertilisation, mulching, replanting and general grounds maintenance. The Position
- Day to day garden and grounds maintenance including but not limited to planned inspections, weed control / removal, rubbish removal, pathway sweeping, minor paving repairs.
- Day to day water way and reticulation lake maintenance including but not limited to planned inspections, float some and rubbish removal, weed and algae control.
- Preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance (Planned preventative inspection, repair, maintenance and fault finding) of the garden and grounds reticulation system.
- Regular inspection of garden and reticulation system to identify any defects / issues and propose corrective actions.
- Supervision of external specialist gardening contractors such as lawn mowing, weed / pest control spraying, tree lopping / maintenance, lawn fertilising.
- Work closely with and technically report to the Maintenance Engineer and Engineering support officer in execution of day to day activities.
- Accountable for the general appearance of the gardens and grounds and compliance with KPIs specific to areas of responsibility.
- Perform daily / weekly maintenance checks as covered in the planned maintenance strategy.
- Provide inputs to maintain adequate stock levels for the efficient operation of the reticulation.
- Support as required with general maintenance assisting other trades in the engineering team as required / directed.
- Attend team meetings as required.
- Complete job history and details in computerised maintenance management system.
- Perform housekeeping of the work area, workshop and post job clean up.
- Reporting on job progress to Maintenance Engineer and highlight hold ups in a timely manner.
- Raise Purchase requisitions for reticulation related material for repairs.
You will bring proven experience in all aspects of garden and grounds maintenance, including the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of reticulation systems within a large commercial environment. You will also have experience undertaking a range of general grounds maintenance tasks, including brick paving, and demonstrate proficiency in the safe and effective use of garden hand tools and powered equipment.
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a team environment are essential. Strong communication skills are required to engage with caregivers, understand their requests and concerns, and respond appropriately to issues relating to the Hospital’s services and facilities. Demonstrated experience working in outdoor environments is required, along with a strong understanding of associated hazards and a proven commitment to safe work practices.
To succeed you will be a self-driven, dynamic and result oriented person who can demonstrate continuous self-improvement and good time management. An ‘A’ Class Driver’s Licence with availability to work after hours if required to attend any unplanned maintenance will be essential for the role.

- Salary: $61,043 to $63,233, plus 12% superannuation
