About the Opportunity

Azooa is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Defence doctrine, publication development, editing, lessons-learned and organisational learning professionals for multiple upcoming Defence opportunities supporting the Doctrine Directorate.

These roles will contribute to the delivery of ADF doctrine, strategic Defence publications, lessons management, organisational learning and publication governance activities.

Roles Available

1. ADF Doctrine Publication Developer

Supporting the delivery of ADF doctrine publications through the full doctrine lifecycle, including sponsor engagement, author coordination, working groups, publication planning, quality assurance, version control and final release.

Ideal experience includes:

  • ADF doctrine or Defence publication development
  • Publication lifecycle management
  • Working with sponsors, authors, SMEs, editors and graphic designers
  • Doctrine analysis reports, author’s briefs and working group coordination
  • Objective records management and version control
  • Defence writing standards and publication governance

Rate guidance

Maximum rate: $181/hour including super

Azooa recommended winning guidance: below 85% of max rate

Recommended competitive rate: below $153.85/hour including super

2. ADF Doctrine Editor

Providing professional editing support across ADF doctrine and strategic Defence publications, including structural editing, substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading and publication quality assurance.

Ideal experience includes:

  • Professional editing of long-form publications
  • Defence, government, policy, technical or doctrine publications
  • Copyediting, proofreading and structural editing
  • Style guide compliance and Defence writing conventions
  • WCAG/accessibility considerations
  • Working with authors, publication developers and sponsors
  • Objective or similar records management systems

Rate guidance

Maximum rate: $151.11/hour including super

Azooa recommended winning guidance: below 85% of max rate

Recommended competitive rate: below $128.44/hour including super

3. Defence Lessons and Adaptation Support Officer

Supporting Defence lessons, organisational learning and adaptation activities, including analysis of Defence capability issues, stakeholder engagement, communities of interest, lessons input to doctrine, and translating lessons into endorsed improvement actions.

Ideal experience includes:

  • Defence lessons-learned programs
  • Organisational learning and adaptation
  • Observations, insights and lessons frameworks
  • Defence capability analysis
  • Stakeholder engagement across complex organisations
  • Strategic writing and evidence-based analysis
  • Translating lessons into formal actions and sustained change
  • Objective records management

Rate guidance

Maximum rate: $129.69/hour including super

Key Requirements

Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following:

  • Defence, ADF, government or complex regulated environments
  • Doctrine, policy, strategy or publication development
  • Professional editing or technical writing
  • Lessons-learned, organisational learning or capability improvement
  • Stakeholder engagement with senior and technical audiences
  • Strong written communication and quality assurance capability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Familiarity with Defence systems, governance, records or publication processes

Clearance

  • Baseline clearance accepted
  • NV1 clearance highly desirable

Work Arrangement

  • Canberra-based candidates are preferred due to sponsor and stakeholder engagement requirements
  • Remote work may be considered depending on the role and client requirements
