Siblings Australia
Siblings Australia is a national not-for-profit organisation and the only one in Australia dedicated solely to supporting the siblings (brothers and sisters) of people with disability and chronic illness. Guided by its vision for all siblings to be acknowledged, connected and supported throughout their lives, Siblings Australia believes that siblings play a vital role within families and communities, and that their experiences, wellbeing and contributions deserve recognition in policy, practice and service delivery.
Since its establishment in 1999, Siblings Australia has become a trusted national leader in sibling support, education, advocacy and research. Through peer support programs, counselling, workshops, resources and professional development opportunities, siblings of all ages, as well as the families, professionals and organisations working with them are supported.
Working collaboratively with siblings, families, researchers, service providers and government, Siblings Australia advocates for greater awareness of sibling experiences and contributes to research, policy and practice that strengthens outcomes for siblings and family wellbeing across Australia.
An opportunity presents to join the very experienced, skills-based Board as a voluntary director contributing to the strategic leadership and governance of this highly valued and internationally regarded organisation as it continues to drive further expansion and transformation of programs on a national basis.
Applications are invited from appropriately qualified professionals and non-executive directors with demonstrated experience in financial stewardship, commercial management, strategic planning and governance. High level communication, advocacy and stakeholder management abilities are qualities sought as are the warmth, empathy, integrity and credibility necessary to inspire others to follow and contribute. Governance qualifications (AICD) and an understanding of the disability sector will be well-regarded but are not deemed essential. Applications from interstate professionals will be welcomed.
Candidates with generalist board profiles, philanthropy expertise or lived experience are also welcome to submit an expression of interest for a future Board opportunity with Siblings Australia.
