The Geelong College is seeking a friendly and organised Canteen Attendant to join our Canteen team.

Working during school hours, this role is responsible for supporting the daily delivery of canteen services to students, staff and visitors. The successful applicant will assist with the preparation and sale of food, process lunch orders, operate the point-of-sale system, manage stock and deliveries, and help ensure the canteen operates efficiently each day.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in delivering excellent customer service and enjoys engaging with students and the wider College community.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 10:30am to 2:30pm during school terms only.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working in a school canteen, tuckshop, cafe or similar food service environment
  • Current Food Handling Certificate
  • Sound understanding of food safety requirements and safe food handling processes
  • Experience preparing and serving food in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience operating a cash register or point-of-sale system
  • Experience managing stock, receiving deliveries and rotating inventory
  • Confidence interacting with children, parents, staff and visitors
  • Barista certification or demonstrated barista training
  • Knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, espresso extraction, milk texturing and beverage presentation will be highly regarded
  • Previous experience working in a school environment will be highly regarded
  • Current Working with Children Check (Employee), or ability to obtain
  • Evidence of Right to Work in Australia
  • Completion of Asthma First Aid in Schools Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Complete the Victorian Department of Education's Protecting Children – Mandatory Reporting and Other Obligations training

Multiple Opportunities Available

The College is currently advertising both a Catering Assistant position and a Canteen Attendant position. Applicants are welcome to apply for either role or both roles. Depending on operational requirements and the skills and availability of the successful candidate, there may be an opportunity for the two positions to be combined into a single role.
