Chief Executive Officer
Brooker Consulting
BioMelbourne Network (BMN) is Victoria’s peak industry body for the health technologies sector, connecting and championing more than 200 organisations and 6,000+ professionals across biotechnology, therapeutics, medical technologies, diagnostics, research, manufacturing and commercialisation.
Following a strategic refresh and Board renewal, BMN is entering an exciting new chapter. We are building on strong foundations and looking to strengthen our role as a trusted connector, influential advocate and respected voice for Victoria’s health technologies sector.
The opportunity
This is a rare and genuinely exciting leadership opportunity.
Reporting to the Board and working closely with the Chair, you will lead the delivery of BMN’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan while helping shape the future direction of Victoria’s health technologies ecosystem.
Working at the intersection of industry, government, investment and policy, you will bring people together, influence conversations that matter and help ensure Victoria remains a globally competitive hub for health innovation, commercialisation and manufacturing.
Day to day, you will:
- Lead sector advocacy and contribute to evidence-based policy engagement
- Build and maintain influential relationships across industry, government, research and investment communities
- Drive member engagement, value and retention across a diverse membership base
- Represent the sector across key industry, government and stakeholder forums
- Support organisational sustainability, growth and operational effectiveness
- Lead and develop a small, collaborative and highly committed team
This is not a traditional corporate CEO role.
There is no large bureaucracy and no distance from the operational elements. You will be hands-on, connected and genuinely present.
Success in this role will come from influence rather than hierarchy, collaboration rather than control, and the ability to bring people together around a shared vision for Victoria’s health technologies sector.
About you
We are not looking for the most conventional candidate. We are looking for the right one.
You may come from industry, government, commercialisation, health, innovation, membership organisations or peak bodies.
What matters most is that you bring:
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability
- Strategic leadership experience and sound judgement
- The ability to communicate clearly, influence effectively and represent a community with authenticity
- Experience working with Boards and governance structures
- An understanding of advocacy and policy engagement, with the ability to represent stakeholder interests and contribute to evidence-based discussions that support sector growth
- A collaborative leadership style, leading through trust rather than hierarchy
- Commercial and organisational acumen, with the ability to operate effectively in a lean and agile environment
We are seeking a leader who combines strategic thinking with practical execution; someone who can build trust, bring people together, and confidently balance long-term opportunities with day-to-day priorities.
Experience within health technologies, life sciences, biotechnology, medtech, digital health or adjacent sectors will be highly regarded. However, if this opportunity resonates with you and you bring strong transferable capability, we genuinely encourage you to apply.
Why join BioMelbourne Network?
This is an opportunity to lead one of Australia’s most influential health technologies industry bodies and contribute meaningfully to the future growth and global positioning of Victoria’s innovation ecosystem.
You will work alongside an engaged Board, committed members and sector leaders to shape advocacy, connectivity and long-term ecosystem impact.
The role offers:
- Significant sector visibility and influence
- Broad stakeholder engagement across industry, government and research
- The opportunity to shape strategic direction and deliver genuine ecosystem outcomes
- Flexible and contemporary ways of working
- A highly engaged and supportive Board invested in your success
