A day in the life…

We’re looking for a driven News Studio Co‑Pilot to join our Canberra News team and support the delivery of the highest professional standards of on-air presentation across local news and updates.

In this role, you’ll work closely with News Editors, Chiefs of Staff, Journalists, Camera Operators, and Presenters, and report directly to the Studio Team Leader. The position is based in Canberra.

More specifically, you will

  • Support the preparation and delivery of news content in collaboration with editorial and studio teams

  • Assist with directing and switching live and pre-recorded bulletins, promos, and updates, providing clear communication to crew

  • Contribute to pre-production planning, produce graphics, and assist with editing stories and promos using broadcast software and equipment

  • Uphold broadcast quality standards, troubleshoot issues, and ensure studio facilities and equipment are production-ready

  • Actively participate in team meetings, share ideas, and support continuous improvement of workflows

What will you need

  • Tertiary qualification in media, production, journalism, or a related field

  • A passion/enthusiasm for broadcast television and live production

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot effectively

  • Ability to learn new systems, tools, and workflows quickly

  • A strong technical aptitude and the ability to grasp technical concepts and processes

  • Previous experience in live studio or broadcast environments (desirable)
