Data Architect

Element Data

Element Data are partnering with a Federal Government client to engage an experienced Data & Platform Architect to support a major uplift of their enterprise data platform.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the next phase of a modern Azure data environment, supporting the transition to Microsoft Fabric and establishing the foundations for advanced analytics, data science and governed self-service reporting.

About the role

You will provide architectural leadership and consulting oversight across a broad data platform transformation program.

The role will focus on modernising the client’s existing data platform, improving the scalability and utilisation of its data lake, and supporting the adoption of Microsoft Fabric workloads across data engineering, analytics, data science and governance.

You will work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to define target-state architecture, guide solution design decisions and establish practical standards that support long-term platform maturity.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the transition from Power BI Premium capacity to Microsoft Fabric
  • Define target-state data platform architecture and guide the next phase of platform evolution
  • Design scalable Lakehouse and Medallion architecture patterns
  • Review, redesign and optimise the enterprise data lake
  • Lead data modelling activities across data warehouse and semantic layers
  • Enable Microsoft Fabric workloads across Data Engineering, Data Science, Lakehouse and Governance
  • Support advanced analytics and machine learning integration patterns
  • Embed security, lineage, metadata management and data quality across the platform
  • Establish foundational data management standards, practices and operating models
  • Design solutions that support the integration of geospatial data and GIS tools
  • Guide technical teams through solution options, risks, trade-offs and implementation approaches
  • Develop architecture blueprints, solution patterns and platform standards

What you’ll bring

  • Strong experience designing Azure data platform architecture
  • Hands-on experience implementing or enabling Microsoft Fabric workloads
  • Deep knowledge of Lakehouse and Medallion architecture patterns
  • Experience designing and optimising enterprise data lakes
  • Strong data modelling capability across conceptual, logical and physical layers
  • Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage, Data Factory, Databricks and related Azure data services
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Purview or Fabric governance tools
  • Understanding of data science pipelines, machine learning integration and scalable compute patterns
  • Experience embedding metadata management, lineage, auditing and data quality frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of Azure security, access control and compliance practices
  • Ability to produce clear architecture artefacts and guide stakeholders through complex technical decisions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to balance technical priorities with broader organisational needs

Experience integrating geospatial data with platforms such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro or Azure Maps will be highly regarded.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced architect to influence a significant data platform transformation and help establish the foundations for modern analytics and data science capability.
