Our client is a dynamic, high-growth financial services business that has established itself as one of Australia’s fastest-growing providers. They are seeking a capable and experienced risk leader to join their team.

About The Role

This is a pivotal role within the central risk support function, focused on control testing across the organisation. The position is broader than traditional controls testing; it combines hands-on delivery of a centralised control testing

program with genuine value-add advisory support to the business.

You will lead a team of 5+ specialists, provide key insights into the effectiveness of controls for material risks and obligations, and play a material role in strengthening the overall risk posture. This is a true “player-manager” role that balances production-style testing activity with strategic influence and control improvement advisory work across multiple divisions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and execute the end-to-end Control Testing program and schedule in alignment with RCSA and obligation management priorities.
  • Lead control testing activities, including test planning, execution, documentation of findings, and clear reporting to Line 1 and Line 2 stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on control design, remediation actions, and uplift opportunities.
  • Monitor control environment health using incident and issue data, identifying themes and driving continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with divisional risk teams, senior leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Lead, develop and coach a high-performing control testing team.
  • Contribute to a strong risk and control culture through training, awareness, and best practice sharing.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • 5+ years’ progressive experience in risk management, internal audit, control testing or assurance roles within financial services or insurance.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership/management capacity leading control testing or similar assurance programs.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and executing control testing programs across diverse business units.
  • Deep understanding of Risk Management Frameworks, Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), the Three Lines of Defence model, and control frameworks (e.g. COSO).
  • Experience providing practical control design advice and supporting remediation programs.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and influence outcomes.
  • Comfort working with bowtie risk assessments and analysing complex control environments.
