Consulting Psychologist ( Employee)

FIFO Focus

Role Type: Permanent Full-time Employee

Location: Alfred Cove (with flexibility and opportunity to work from home on occasions).

This role is open to Australian Registered Psychologists (Perth Based) and includes working with clients in regional and operational environments, including mining. Travel from Perth is part of the role and is typically ad hoc short trips rather than ongoing rosters.

About the Role

This role is about applying psychology in real environments, not just talking about it.

At FIFO Focus and Permentis, we work in various industries and environments where the focus is on improving how work operates, not just how people feel about it.

You’ll be working directly with clients to deliver training, contribute to advisory work, and support meaningful changes in how work is designed, led, and experienced.

This is not a role where you sit back and learn slowly. You’ll be expected to step in, contribute, and build your capability through doing the work.

FIFO Focus and PerMentis are sister brands led by organisational psychologists, working across industries to create psychologically healthy workplaces and mentally healthy workforces.

FIFO Focus is best known for its work in the resources sector, particularly mining, supporting leaders and teams in operational environments. PerMentis works more broadly across government, health, and professional organisations.

Across both, our work focuses on:

  • Psychosocial risk management
  • Mental health
  • Respectful workplaces
  • Trauma-informed approaches
  • Leadership development
  • Team and culture development

We are known for work that is practical, grounded, and able to be applied in the real world.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be involved in a mix of delivery, advisory, and client work, including:

  • Delivering and co-delivering workshops across mental health, psychosocial risk, and respectful workplaces
  • Contributing to training design and advisory work and helping shape solutions that fit the client’s environment
  • Working directly with clients and supporting the delivery of high-quality, outcome-focused work
  • Preparing reports and materials that are clear, practical, and usable
  • Working closely with a small team to plan, deliver, and refine our work

Over time, you’ll take on greater ownership of delivery and client engagement, building toward leading your own work. This includes progressing toward leading elements of client delivery and being a key point of contact for clients.

What It’s Like to Work Here

We’re a small, values-driven team. That means:

  • You’ll be trusted to manage your work, but not left unsupported
  • You’ll get exposure to a range of work and environments quickly
  • You’ll work closely with experienced psychologists and organisational psychologists
  • You’ll be encouraged to contribute ideas and take ownership

There’s a high standard for the work we do, and a strong focus on doing it properly.

What You Bring

  • Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA
  • Experience designing and delivering training and facilitation
  • Experience in advisory work, or the capability to step into this
  • Ability to engage and work effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • Comfort working both face-to-face and online
  • Experience or demonstrated capability in psychosocial risk, mental health, and workplace culture
  • A collaborative, proactive approach and alignment with how we work

Why This Role

  • Work across a range of industries, including operational and high-impact environments
  • Apply psychology in a way that leads to practical outcomes
  • Build your consulting capability through real experience
  • Be part of a team that values quality, contribution, and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to work that improves both wellbeing and organisational performance

Our Approach to Diversity

We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are committed to building a team that reflects a broad range of backgrounds, skills, and viewpoints.

This includes diversity in professional background, industry experience, and lived experience. We encourage applications from individuals who can bring different perspectives to our work and team.
