About The Way Back Support Service
The Way Back is a non-clinical aftercare service for people who have experienced a suicidal crisis or suicide attempt.
We provide trauma-aware, person-driven, psychosocial support in the first 3 months following a suicidal crisis across the Brisbane North region.
We see clinical and psychosocial care as complementary, not competing – and Lived Experience is central to how we walk alongside people in distress.
About the role
- Provide one-on-one service navigation, coordination and guidance tailored for young people aged from 15 years
- Support participants residing within the Prince Charles Hospital catchment
- Support the planning, development and implementation of suicide prevention activities with participants
- Engage participants and develop trust, culturally appropriate, trauma informed professional relationships
- Work collaboratively with participants to identify their needs, set goals and develop safety plans and care plans
- Work in partnership with service providers and community groups to create a support network for participants
About You
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services, Youth Work or related fields
- Minimum 2 years paid experience in frontline suicide prevention and/or youth work roles
- Demonstrated experience in providing support to young people who have experienced suicide attempt or crisis.
- Knowledge and skills in applying non-clinical approaches, including robust safety planning skills, to support individuals experiencing suicidal or emotional distress.
- Proficiency in using various software applications for administration and support facilitation
- Experience working in trauma-informed, person-driven and recovery-oriented ways
- Highly developed communication, interpersonal, organisational and admin skills, including comfort with data and case management systems
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with community agencies and government services
