A market leading Tier 2 contractor with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects, our client is now seeking an experienced Project Manager (looking to step up) or Senior Project Manager to join their growing business in Sydney. The role will be like a Business Unit Manager for the Defence Sector.
Projects in the business are generally Industrial, Defence or Commercial in nature, experience with similar projects in these sectors will be an advantage.
As Senior Project Manager, you will need to have strong commercial acumen, contracts management, design management, OHS, programming / planning experience as well as running meetings with consultants and subcontractors to provide a high quality service that will ensure client expectations are met and exceeded.
The role will be almost like an entry level Operations Manager type of role as you will be managing a number of Project Managers who are delivering building projects from smaller up to $10m across fit-out, refurb, upgrades, new build, remedial etc. You will be office based with site visits and heavily involved in tendering, business development, contract management and being the client contact and escalation point for issues that arise while looking to grow the business unit.
Responsibilities include but not limited to
- Tendering and business development activities
- Client management
- Recruitment of teams
- Design comprehensive project programmes and communicate to team
- Project delivery from inception through to completion
- Ensure construction programmes are followed & deliver on project quality to programme
- Identify and manage construction risk through all projects, escalating issues when required
- Manage project expenditure and cash flow
- Management and achievement of external engineering design aspects of projects
- Design management
- Manage subcontractors on site
- Manage and maintain HSEQ requirements on the project
- Produce progress reports
- Deliver and manage client expectations
Qualifications and Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or similar
- Minimum 7 - 15 years+ experience in the successful delivery of projects from start to finish ideally from a Tier 1, 2 or 3background
- Proven leadership ability in building and motivating teams to deliver high quality projects
- Previous experience delivering greenfield projects
- Detailed knowledge of local council and regulatory requirements / standards
- Strong planning and project financial reporting skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Well-developed interpersonal skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite
- Construction Safety Induction (white) card
