Senior Solicitor - Bunbury
- Fixed Term 12 Month Position
- 5 Days / Week
As a South West Community Legal Centre employee, you will be making a real difference every day. This position is well suited to a legal practitioner with experience in family law, family violence related issues, child protection, tenancy and other civil law. The applicant will need to demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, social and economic issues facing people in the South West community.
As a key team member, you will work with other staff members and report to the Principal Solicitor.
You will have experience in most or all of the following areas of law: restraining order matters, family law, criminal injuries compensation, tenancy and other areas of civil law.
Part of a small legal team, you’ll be applying your skills and sharing your knowledge across a diverse range of matters. Reporting directly to our Principal Solicitor, you will manage a diverse caseload and be given opportunities to further your own professional development. You will also provide supervision, guidance, and professional support to other members of the legal team including paralegals and restricted practitioners.
There is flexibility to negotiate the hours of this position. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be employed 5 days per week. This position is based in our Bunbury office and will involve travel to our nearby Outreach locations or local courts. APPLICANTS WILL HAVE (CRITERIA)
- A current, unrestricted practicing certificate from the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia with minimum 3 years post-admission experience;
- Experience, or a willingness to gain experience, in most or all of the following areas of law: restraining orders, family law, criminal injuries compensation, child protection, tenancy and other civil matters;
- Hold a current, Western Australian Driver's Licence (full or probationary licence).
- Current National Police Clearance valid within the last 6 months
- Current or willing to obtain Working with Children’s check

- Demonstrated experience in effectively supervising, managing, motivating and mentoring legal staff and volunteers;
desirable skills / experience
- Experience developing and delivering legal education seminars;
- Experience working with Culturally and linguistically diverse, Aboriginal or vulnerable community members; and
- Experience working within the legal assistance sector (community legal Centre or Legal Aid).
