Albany Health Campus is seeking a Consultant Paediatrician to join its supportive, collaborative team - offering diverse clinical exposure, leadership opportunities, and true work–life balance.
This is a Fixed Term Part Time appointment at 0.80FTE, 64 hours per fortnight, to cover parental leave from 8 July 2026 until 30 April 2027. Fixed Term roles may include options for extension.
Consultant Year 1–9: $412,161 – $523,436 per annum, pro rata*
- The above salary is as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024. Rates effective as of 3 September 2025. (inclusive of base Salary, 12% superannuation, and professional development allowance). This is subject to the assessment of qualifications, clinical skills, and years of practice.
About the Role
As a Consultant Paediatrician, you will provide a high standard of evidence based paediatric clinical care to in-patient, outpatient and community based developmental services for Great Southern patients. You will demonstrate a positive commitment to modelling our organisational values, safety and quality improvement, and the Code of Conduct in all aspects of employment.
Within this role, you will be working within a multidisciplinary paediatric team and provide leadership in service development and deliverables of the Great Southern Integrated Paediatric Service. The role requires strong leadership to drive clinical quality and safety improvements, and to supervise, mentor and educate staff, including General Practitioners, Registrars, Resident Medical Officers, medical students and nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical care of general paediatric, neonatal and developmental patients within the Great Southern region.
- Participate in continuing professional development and contribute to education, training and research projects relevant to service.
- Participate in the on-call and after-hours paediatrics roster.
- Liaise and confer regularly with general practitioners and other health care professionals.
- Supervise and mentor medical students, junior doctors and training registrars.
Albany Hospital and the Paediatric Service
Albany Health Campus is a modern 130-bed hospital serving 80,000 residents in Albany and the Great Southern Region. The Medical and Children’s ward has 8 beds assigned to paediatric patients and additionally there is a 4 bed special care nursery, opened in July 2025, admitting neonates from 34 weeks gestation. A new 32 bed medical ward is scheduled for completion in early 2027. It functions as a regional resource centre and secondary referral hospital, handling approximately 6500 paediatric presentations annually in its Emergency Department resulting in approximately 1200 admissions to the paediatric hospital beds. There are approximately 500 newborn deliveries a year.
The Paediatric Service at Albany Hospital is accredited for both basic and advanced training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and additionally supports GP training with accreditation with both the RACGP and ACRRM for advanced paediatric skills.
You would join a highly motivated and friendly team of four consultants, two resident medical officers, a paediatric registrar and paediatric senior registrar together with our multidisciplinary team consisting of nursing staff, social worker, psychologist and a dietician to provide high quality paediatric service to the region.
The roster is lifestyle friendly with the on call requirements split between the five consultants and supported by our senior paediatric registrar

The Successful Candidates Will
- Hold specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia without restrictions.
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics and Child Health) or equivalent that is recognised for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia
- Demonstrated clinical experience in paediatric patient management including acute care, neonatal care, ambulatory care, child protection and developmental and behavioural paediatrics
Please note: this position does not have capacity to support supervision for trainees or SIMGs. Candidates must be able to practise independently without clinical supervision.
