Primary objective

Provide strategic leadership, direction and management of the related Correctional Centre including the related Work Camp, and

other allocated services within statutory, agency and budgetary requirements to ensure their effective operation.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide high-quality strategic direction, leadership and management of the Correctional Centre in line with the NTCS operating

philosophy, strategic plan, budget and a culturally sensitive environment.

2. Develop and implement strategies that support and enhance community safety through prisoner education, healthy lifestyle,

skills development, programs, employment and other options aimed at reducing reoffending.

3. Lead a team of senior staff in the development and implementation of the Correctional Centre business plan.

4. Establish and foster appropriate relationships with key corporate functions and community stakeholders, including Aboriginal

organisations, statutory and voluntary bodies, and local community groups.

5. Establish and promote a legislatively compliant custodial environment for staff, prisoners and service providers.

6. Establish and deliver systems and practices to record and report on statutory obligations and compliance of operational

performance, human resource management, and financial activities.

7. Provide support and operational leadership in the development and consultation of critical infrastructure works associated with

relevant elements of the Department's master infrastructure plan.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven strategic leadership skills in a multi-disciplinary custodial environment with the ability to develop and manage innovative

solutions to complex operational issues.

2. Senior level experience in the management of physical and dynamic security operations which provide for a safe work

environment, whilst maximising prisoner engagement in education, programs, employment and reintegration opportunities.

3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills with the ability to influence change and reform within an environment modelled

on continuous improvement and active staff and union engagement.

4. Proven ability to foster partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders to deliver services across the organisation while

maintaining positive internal relationships through appropriate consultative practices.

5. Demonstrated experience in managing significant financial and physical resources to build organisational capability and

accountable performance, whilst providing a secure, safe and culturally appropriate custodial service.

6. Demonstrated understanding and experience of working with Aboriginal Australians in a custodial and/or criminal justice

setting.

Desirable

1. Relevant tertiary qualification in Business or Human Services appropriate to the responsibilities of the Correctional Centre.
