The Youth Project Coordinator forms part of the Community Wellbeing Branch and offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people across the municipality..
The Community Wellbeing Branch plays a vital role in shaping a healthy, inclusive and thriving municipality.
We deliver and continuously improve a wide range of community services spanning health and wellbeing, children and family services, youth services, immunisation, maternal and child health, and services for older people. Our focus is ensuring high quality, accessible services for all community members.
Within this branch, the Health Policy and Promotion Team partners across the organisation and community to improve public health and wellbeing through capacity building, planning, education and research.
We are seeking a dynamic and committed professional to manage and coordinate youth-focused projects and lead the City of Melbourne’s youth practice during a parental leave backfill period (20 weeks).
This role is critical to continuing the delivery of our Youth Service Plan and broader wellbeing initiatives.
This role plays a key part in delivering impactful outcomes for our community and supporting the strategic goals of the City of Melbourne.

A little more about the role
- Lead and coordinate projects that support young people across the City of Melbourne
- Connect and engage with young people and the broader youth sector to inform service delivery
- Support the development of youth-inclusive programs, services, facilities and open spaces
- Partner across council—including Community Services, Libraries, Arts, City Design, Parks and more—to embed youth perspectives
- Manage contracts, grants and partnerships that support youth services delivery
- Contribute to broader Community Wellbeing projects as required

About you
You are an experienced community or youth sector practitioner who thrives in collaborative environments and brings strong relationship building capabilities.
You bring maturity, motivation and strong interpersonal skills to influence positive outcomes for young people across the municipality.
Importantly, you demonstrate strongly developed networking skills and work effectively as part of a team in a complex and dynamic environment.
What your experience might look like
- Completion of a relevant degree in social services/community development or equivalent experience and training
- Demonstrated high-level project management and service planning skills
- Experience in strategic planning and business improvement
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with demonstrated experience solving complex problems
- Demonstrated negotiation, verbal communication and presentation skills in sensitive environments
- Proven ability to influence positive outcomes with diverse stakeholders
- Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to prepare high quality reports and submissions
- Ability to represent CoM in meetings with government agencies, high profile stakeholders, community leaders and interest groups
