BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The National Events Manager plays a critical leadership role in the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of Football Australia’s events, competitions and match-day operations.
This role is responsible for leading the end-to-end execution of national team matches, major competitions (including the Australia Cup and National Second Division), and major international and exhibition events.
This role requires a highly experienced and strategic events professional who can lead complex projects, manage competing priorities, and deliver world-class fan experiences while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across the domestic and international football landscape.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and delivery of Football Australia events, including national team matches, competitions and major tournaments
- Oversee match-day operations, stadium readiness and integration with venue partners
- Develop and implement event strategies, operational plans and project timelines
- Manage ticketing strategies, fan engagement initiatives and event delivery frameworks
- Lead relationships with key stakeholders including venues, federations, FIFA/AFC, clubs, government and commercial partners
- Oversee procurement, tendering and management of event suppliers and contractors
- Work collaboratively across internal departments to ensure aligned and high-quality event execution
- Provide leadership and direction to the events & operations team
ROLE OUTCOMES/ DELIVERABLES
- Successful delivery of high-quality, fan-focused events that enhance the profile of football in Australia
- Efficient and effective management of multiple events and projects within agreed timelines and budgets
- Strong, productive stakeholder relationships across domestic and international partners
- Well-executed event operations, including safety, security, logistics and stakeholder integration
- Delivery of detailed event plans, reporting, budgets and post-event evaluations
- Leadership of a high-performing, accountable and collaborative team culture
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in managing and delivering sporting or major events
- Strong project management capability, including planning, budgeting and delivery across multiple concurrent projects
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive outcomes in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and organisational skills
- High attention to detail with strong commercial and operational acumen
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in event management, sports management, venue management or a related discipline
- Demonstrated relevant industry experience in events, operations or sport
- Valid driver’s licence
