A bit about the role

  • Overview of the position – This role is a specialist advisory opportunity within Bankwest’s Data and Privacy Centre of Excellence, focused on supporting privacy, data governance and records management across a modern digital banking environment.
  • Key purpose – The role exists to provide trusted advice and practical support that helps Bankwest manage privacy, data and records obligations while enabling safe, customer-focused transformation and business change.
  • Main responsibilities – You’ll support privacy and data advisory activities across projects and business initiatives, contribute to compliance and risk management activities, uplift privacy awareness, and help improve advisory frameworks and ways of working.
  • Team context – You’ll sit within the Bankwest Data and Privacy Centre of Excellence in the Risk, Strategy and Performance Team, reporting to the Senior Manager Specialist Advisory – Privacy and Data, and partnering with stakeholders across Bankwest and the broader CBA Group.
  • Impact – Your work will help shape how a modern digital bank approaches privacy, data governance and records management, improving customer outcomes, supporting regulatory compliance and strengthening risk management by design while building expertise in areas that are becoming increasingly important across banking, technology and regulation.

Your day-to-day

  • Daily tasks – You’ll regularly provide advice on privacy, data governance and records management matters, support change initiatives and projects, contribute to compliance activities, and help uplift awareness across the organisation.
  • Tools used – You’ll work in a contemporary digital environment and use modern, AI-enabled ways of working to support advisory delivery, risk management and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration – You’ll work closely with experienced leaders, peers and stakeholders across Bankwest and the broader CBA Group, building strong relationships and providing practical guidance to support business outcomes.
  • Decision-making – You’ll apply sound judgment to help embed privacy and data risk considerations into business processes, transformation programs and customer outcomes, while supporting decisions that balance risk, compliance and commercial priorities.
  • Problem-solving – You’ll help navigate advisory challenges in a fast-evolving banking environment, identifying practical solutions to privacy, data and records issues and contributing to stronger controls and better ways of working.

  • Key skills – You bring strong communication, stakeholder engagement, analytical thinking and pragmatic problem-solving skills, along with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Mindset or attitude – You’re curious, adaptable and enthusiastic about learning, with a growth mindset and a genuine interest in building expertise in privacy, data governance and records management.
  • Work style – You work well collaboratively in fast-paced and evolving environments, while also being able to manage your own priorities and contribute thoughtfully to team outcomes.
  • Nice-to-haves – Experience in privacy or data governance is valuable, but not essential. We're equally interested in people with strong advisory, risk, legal, consulting or governance backgrounds who are excited to build expertise in this growing field. Knowledge of Australian privacy laws and regulatory frameworks, or the capability to quickly build expertise, will be highly regarded.

  • Relevant experience – Backgrounds in risk, compliance, governance, legal, consulting or advisory environments, with experience supporting business initiatives, projects or transformation programs.
  • Core skills – Strong stakeholder engagement, analysis, risk thinking, advisory capability and the ability to provide practical, business-relevant guidance.
  • Knowledge areas – Familiarity with privacy, data governance, records management, risk or compliance concepts, ideally within a regulated or complex environment or r the capability and curiosity to quickly build expertise in these areas.
  • Problem-solving ability – The ability to think critically, assess issues thoughtfully and contribute practical solutions that support both compliance requirements and customer outcomes.
  • Communication style – Clear, confident and collaborative communication, with the ability to build trust, engage stakeholders and influence outcomes in a constructive way.
  • Adaptability – Comfort working in a changing environment, learning new domains and embracing contemporary, AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Values or mindset – Curiosity, ownership, collaboration and a willingness to continuously learn and improve in a strategically important area of the business.
