Cyber Security Engineer

Work on a bespoke, defence-grade product that matters. This is a hands-on technical role for a senior cyber security engineer who is comfortable building, owning and delivering security architecture from the ground up.

About This Role

You will design and implement security architecture across networks, platforms and on-premises environments for a defence-grade software product. Working closely with engineering teams, you will apply and enforce technical controls aligned to the ISM and Essential Eight, develop security tooling, and drive continuous improvement across the security posture of complex systems.

About The Company

Our client is a software SMB delivering a bespoke product directly into Defence, off the back of multiple successful implementations to international Australian partners. They operate in a focused, collaborative environment where engineers have real ownership of their work and direct visibility of its impact on Australian Defence capability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and oversee security architecture across networks, platforms and on-premises environments
• Implement technical security controls aligned to the ISM and Essential Eight (E8)
• Develop and deploy security tooling to address vulnerabilities, automate tasks and strengthen defences
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement secure authentication, encryption and access control solutions

Skills And Experience Needed

• Extensive technical cybersecurity engineering experience in a Defence environment (6+ years)
• Strong background in Linux systems, network security and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Hands-on experience with security automation and monitoring tools (SIEM, Ansible, ACAS, Anchore, SonarQube or similar)
• Deep understanding of ISM and the Essential Eight framework
• Australian Citizenship required

CLEARANCE
