The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) is Australia's independent rule maker and adviser for the National Electricity Market, natural gas markets and related retail markets. About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Analytics team. As an Analytics Engineer, you are the critical link between raw data and the delivery of actionable insights at the AEMC. This role bridges the gap between data engineering and organisation intelligence by transforming complex data structures into robust, accessible, and high-quality data products thereby ensuring that evidence-based decision making remains at the heart of market regulation.

Working with a team of experienced data professionals, this role will be responsible for providing the essential data architecture and enabling the foundations required for market modelling and advanced data science activities. In addition, the role will focus on developing advanced corporate reporting capabilities, specifically establishing a "single view" of projects to provide the executive team with enhanced oversight and transparency.

You will also be responsible for enabling the ongoing monitoring of rule change impact by developing and analysing reflective trends to support the AEMC’s core regulatory functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • The processing of large, diverse datasets across the electricity, gas, and corporate domains and the transformation and curation of data, to ensure accuracy and reliability for a range of different applications.
  • Developing, supporting and maintaining solutions within the AEMC Databricks platform.
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders across the organisation to identify, scope and develop analytical use cases.
  • Producing high-impact dashboards and reports via Power BI to provide analytics and data insights to non-technical users.

About You - we are looking for candidates with

  • At least 2 years of experience working in an enterprise cloud data platform
  • A high level of proficiency in the application of SQL within analytical solutions
  • Familiarity in using Python to perform data analysis tasks
  • Awareness and understanding of Dimensional and 3NF data modelling techniques
  • Proficiency in producing dashboards and reports with Microsoft Power BI or similar software
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain complex analytical results to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work effectively independently and within a team to deliver project outcomes.
  • A strong background and interest in analysis or data engineering
  • Flexible and innovative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of energy market data, with a focus on AEMO data within the NEM is desirable.
  • Experience with cloud-based analytics platforms, specifically Databricks and experience using version control software is desirable.
  • Experience or willingness to learn more about building commercial AI solutions to solve complex business problems.
