About the Position

We are excited to welcome a Specialist Cultural Practitioner (Identified) to our Toowoomba Intensive Family Support Team! Build strong partnerships with First Nations communities in Toowoomba, championing culturally safe family support and promoting reflective, inclusive practice within the team. This role offers a powerful opportunity to support Act for Kids’ dedication to culturally safe practice, helping ensure every child has an equal chance to heal from trauma and live a happy life.

  • Level 5 SCHCADS Award.
  • Salary range: $100,784 - $105,350 + Superannuation.
  • Full-time, Government funded opportunity until 31 December 2027 with possible extension.
  • It is a genuine occupational requirement that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of culturally safe, strengths-based case management that empowers families to achieve sustainable outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with families , co-designing case plans that draw on cultural identity, strengths, and lived experience.
  • Embed and champion Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems in all aspects of practice with First Nations families.
  • Coach, mentor, and guide team members while driving reflective practice and culturally informed decision-making.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., allied health, social work, human services) or equivalent lived experience (subject to funding body approval).
  • Professional registration where required; membership of a relevant association is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and families, with a strong understanding of child protection issues and experience in cases management or therapeutic services.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia (proof of eligibility required), including holding or obtaining required checks (Working with Children Check or professional exemption).
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Willingness of a respected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural referee to vouch for your appropriateness for this role .
