At Skills Canberra, we support apprenticeships, other vocational education and training, and workforce development across the ACT. We work closely with industry to understand workforce needs, support employers, and deliver programs that build strong, skilled teams for the future.

As a Field Officer, your primary focus will be working directly with employers to support high-quality apprenticeship and traineeship arrangements.

You will:

  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with employers through regular site visits.
  • Work alongside employers to address any issues early and achieve positive outcomes for both the business and the apprentice or trainee.
  • Assist apprentices and trainees to stay on track, particularly where additional support may be needed.

You will also contribute to promoting apprenticeships and traineeships within the community and encouraging more people to consider hands-on career pathways.

Eligibility/Other Requirements

Mandatory:

  • An Australian-issued and current driver licence to operate a vehicle within the ACT.
  • A current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to: Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra.
  • Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or a willingness to obtain within a short time frame of commencement – A ‘White Card’ and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organisation is required, for further information refer to: General Construction Induction Card - Access Canberra.
  • Asbestos Awareness card or a willingness to obtain within a short time frame of commencement – Asbestos Awareness Training and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organisation is required, for further information refer to: Asbestos Awareness Training - WorkSafe ACT.
  • Crystalline Silica (Silica Dust) Exposure Prevention training or willingness to obtain within a short time frame of commencement – evidence of completion of training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation for Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention is required, for further information refer to: Silica dust - WorkSafe ACT.

Favourably considered:

  • Experience in inspection/visit-based assurance or compliance programs that include providing information and support to clients/partners.
  • Experience communicating and/or promoting training, education and/or career programs to diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of jurisdictional administration of the Australian Apprenticeships sector.

Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill similar vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. This position is in an activity-based working (ABW) environment. Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
