Your New Role

As a Technical Writer, you will play a pivotal role in developing high‑quality documentation that supports complex hardware and software systems. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, project teams, and subject‑matter experts to translate technical information into clear, accurate, and user‑friendly publications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating, editing, and maintaining large and complex technical documents.
  • Analysing engineering source data to support product development.
  • Producing technical publications for both hardware and software environments.
  • Applying advanced authoring skills in Microsoft Word and/or Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Using graphic tools to develop simple drawings and diagrams.
  • Developing documentation aligned with established methodologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Creating PDF outputs using Adobe Acrobat.

What You Need to Succeed

You will bring:

  • At least 1-2 years exprience experience in technical writing within Defence industry or complex manufacturing such as aerospace, aviation or shipbuilding.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to communicate in clear, plain English.
  • Proficiency with technical publication authoring tools.
  • Demonstrated experience producing and editing complex documentation.
  • Advanced capability in Microsoft Word and/or Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Experience working with engineering teams to gather and interpret technical information.
  • Broad experience with Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with documentation methodologies for hardware and software products.
  • Experience using graphic tools for diagrams and simple illustrations.
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat for PDF creation.

Desirable skills include

  • Experience with S1000D.
  • Background in manufacturing, engineering, electrical, technology, or defence sectors.
  • Experience with web‑based publishing or online help systems.
  • Exposure to Quality Standards and military documentation practices.
  • Understanding of LSA tasks and their relationship to technical publications.
  • Understanding of software development processes and documentation outputs.
