Where you'll be working

Join the Forensic Medical Unit (FMU) at Blacktown Hospital and become part of a highly specialised multidisciplinary team delivering compassionate, culturally safe and evidence based care to victims of interpersonal and intimate partner violence across Western Sydney Local Health District.

Working closely with the Integrated Violence Prevention and Response Service (IVPRS), NSW Police, judicial services and community agencies, you will contribute to a service committed to clinical excellence, advocacy and patient centred care.

What you'll be doing

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist 2, you will provide advanced forensic nursing care and expert clinical support to patients experiencing violence, abuse and neglect. You will deliver holistic and trauma informed care while ensuring high quality forensic documentation, evidence collection and medico legal reporting.

  • Provide forensic assessments, injury documentation, photography and evidence collection
  • Deliver culturally safe, trauma informed nursing care for victims of violence and abuse
  • Participate in the 24/7 on call roster and extended business hours service delivery
  • Prepare timely medico legal reports and provide expert evidence when required
  • Mentor clinicians, contribute to education programs and support service improvement initiatives

Essential Criteria

  • Registration: Current authority to practice unrestricted as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the with Australian Health practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated Clinical experience with assessing immediate health care needs of patients and providing a referral service as required

  • Completed, be working towards, or be willing to enroll within 6 months of employment in appropriate clinical forensic post-graduate qualifications, such as the Graduate Certificate in the Medical and Forensic Management of Adult Sexual Assault held by the NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV).

  • Demonstrated clinical experience in a relevant specialty and experience in or demonstrated ability to gain experienced in clinical forensic medicine.

  • The ability to work in an environment which is at times distressing, due to the nature of the cases being presented and assessed.

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills – including the ability to present in training sessions, discuss matters in Court and communicate to a number of stakeholders including Police, Social Workers, Counsellors and other Nurses and Doctors.

  • Demonstrated strong written skills – including the ability to develop briefs, prepare court correspondence and develop training and other written communication as required.

  • Demonstrated clinical experience with assessing immediate health care needs of patients and providing a referral service as required

  • Strong organisational and time management skills along with demonstrated ability to provide nursing care in a multidisciplinary team.

  • License: Evidence of a class C drivers licence and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes
