Senior Mining Engineer
Core Lithium
Mining Engineering Professional - Underground
Finniss Lithium Operation – Northern Territory | Residential Darwin
FIFO Initially Considered Short-Term | Relocation Support Offered
Core Lithium has reached Final Investment Decision (FID), marking the official restart of the Finniss Lithium Operation and the next phase of growth. As we power back into production, this is an opportunity to be part of recharging a critical operation at the centre of the global battery supply chain.
With open pit mining recommencing and underground development at the BP33 deposit about to begin, we are now seeking an experienced Underground Mining Professional to play a key role in establishing and supporting the underground mining function through development, production, and long-term ramp up.
This is a rare opportunity to join an underground operation at the very beginning, helping shape systems, processes, and standards from early development through to full-scale production, while taking ownership of a long-term role offering significant autonomy, variety, and influence within an exciting underground lithium operation.
While our long-term preference is for the successful candidate to relocate to Darwin and become part of the Finniss team, we understand relocation takes time. An initial FIFO arrangement can be considered while suitable accommodation is secured, with relocation assistance provided.
If you are seeking
- A genuine underground growth opportunity
- A role with autonomy, influence, and ownership
- The opportunity to help build an underground operation from development through to production
- A long-term future within the lithium sector
- A lifestyle change and career opportunity in the Northern Territory
We would welcome your application.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Mining Manager and working closely with the broader technical services team, this role will be instrumental in supporting underground development activities before transitioning into full underground production as the operation ramps up.
Operating within a lean technical team environment, the successful candidate will be comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership of key technical deliverables, and building strong working relationships across operations, contractors, and technical services.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining short-term weekly schedules aligned with the three-month mine plan
- Leading short-term underground development design approvals aligned with long-term mine design strategies and ground support standards
- Underground stope design and optimisation
- Ventilation planning and integration into underground operations
- Drill and blast design, execution support, and vibration monitoring to optimise blast performance
- Reconciliation of underground development and stopes, including overbreak and underbreak analysis
- Reporting daily, weekly, and monthly mining activities, including compliance against plan
- Liaising closely with mining operations and underground mining contractors to optimise performance and achieve production objectives
- Supporting the development and implementation of technical and operational underground systems
- Contributing to major hazard management plans, standards, risk assessments, and QA/QC processes
- Providing practical technical leadership within a lean and highly collaborative site team
- Working closely with planning, survey, geology, and operational stakeholders to support safe and efficient underground mining activities
About You
We are open to considering candidates from a range of seniority levels, provided you bring strong underground mining experience and the ability to operate effectively within a developing underground operation.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience within underground hard rock mining operations
- Demonstrated experience in underground mine design and production support
- Strong understanding of underground development, stoping, and production processes
- Experience with short-term planning, scheduling, and operational integration
- Exposure to ventilation planning and underground operational requirements
- Experience in drill and blast design and optimisation
- Strong reconciliation and reporting capabilities
- Ability to work independently and confidently within a small technical team
- Strong stakeholder engagement and contractor management skills
- Experience using Deswik and/or similar underground mine planning software
- A proactive and hands-on approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Preference will be given to candidates with exposure to underground backfill systems, including cemented rock fill (CRF) and paste fill design and operational integration.
About Core Lithium
At Core Lithium, you won't be stepping into a mature underground operation where systems, processes, and ways of working are already established.
Instead, you'll have the opportunity to be part of building the BP33 underground mine from the ground up, contributing to the development of the standards, systems, and technical frameworks that will underpin a safe, productive, and successful operation for years to come.
Working within a lean and highly collaborative team, you'll enjoy broad exposure across mine planning, underground development, production, technical services, contractors, and operational leadership. Your ideas and expertise will be valued, and your contribution will have a genuine impact on how the underground operation evolves.
