The Opportunity

Reporting to the Core Networks Telstra Commercial Manager, this role is responsible for providing commercial leadership and governance across the Telstra Network project portfolio. The position ensures contractual compliance, drives effective commercial management practices, and supports the optimisation of project performance and profitability.

Leading a team of two, the role partners closely with project delivery teams, clients, supply chain partners, and corporate support functions to proactively manage commercial risk, identify and realise opportunities, and contribute to the successful delivery of project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial and contractual management with clients and subcontractors.
  • Provide commercial guidance to project teams and Contract Administrators.
  • Manage risk, opportunities, contract compliance, variations, claims, disputes, and reporting.
  • Support procurement activities, including tendering, negotiation, subcontractor selection, and contract awards.
  • Oversee subcontractor onboarding, compliance, contract administration, and variations.
  • Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to achieve efficient procurement outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with project processes, governance requirements, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support project close-out activities, contract reconciliation, payment analysis, and documentation.
  • Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, profitability reporting, and profit improvement initiatives.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Engineering, Construction Law, Construction/Commercial Management, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in contract administration, commercial management, and/or quantity surveying within project or contract environments.
  • Proficient in Vera, VisRes, Maximo, and Novus systems.
  • Experience onboarding and managing subcontractors within a construction environment.
  • Telecommunications and/or electrical industry experience is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of standard forms of construction contracts and subcontracts, contract law principles, risk management, and contract negotiation.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), SharePoint, and JIRA.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, influence, and achieve commercially sound outcomes.
  • Strong commercial acumen across subcontract management, tendering, claims, contract administration, financial modelling, KPI management, and profit improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively across all levels of project delivery teams and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated success in client relationship management, delivering mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Self-motivated, resilient, proactive, and capable of working both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
