About The Role

In the Mining – Business Transformation team, we focus on our clients’ strategic and operational needs by addressing the full spectrum of performance, productivity, and financial challenges faced by mining organisations, boards, private equity sponsors, creditor constituencies, and other stakeholders.

Our team partners with clients to improve performance, accelerate growth, and unlock long-term value. In Australia, we have developed a strong focus on the mining sector and are now seeking to grow that capability at a senior level. Our team combines practical mining operations experience with strategic and operational corporate advisory expertise, enabling us to engage credibly with boards, executives, and operational leaders.

We are seeking an experienced Director or Senior Director to join our Brisbane and Perth Mining – Business Transformation practice. This is a senior leadership role for a commercially astute professional with a track record of delivering complex transformation engagements, building lasting client relationships, and driving business development in the mining and resources sector. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the growth and direction of our Australian Mining practice.

What You’ll Do

  • Project & Client Delivery
    • Managing day-to-day delivery of mining transformation engagements across strategy, operational performance, and business improvement, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard
    • Conducting and leading diagnostic assessments of operational performance across mining asset lifecycles and value chains, translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations
    • Designing and implementing transformation initiatives across operations and projects to deliver measurable and sustainable improvements in client performance
    • Preparing and reviewing client deliverables including reports, presentations, and board-level materials, ensuring clear and compelling storytelling throughout
    • Managing client relationships throughout engagement delivery, serving as the primary day-to-day point of contact and maintaining trust and confidence with operational leaders and senior stakeholders
    • Proactively identifying and managing engagement risks, issues, and scope, and escalating appropriately to ensure successful outcomes
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Managing, mentoring, and developing project teams of consultants and senior consultants across engagements
    • Setting clear expectations for team performance, providing regular feedback, and supporting the professional growth of junior staff
    • Fostering a collaborative, high-performance team culture consistent with FTI Consulting’s values
    • Contributing to internal capability development, including training, knowledge sharing, and the development of methodologies and thought leadership

What You'll Need To Succeed

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8+ years of professional experience combining substantive mining or resources industry experience with management consulting or corporate advisory experience
  • A proven track record of leading complex, large-scale transformation or performance improvement engagements in the mining or resources sector
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage client relationships throughout engagement delivery, with experience engaging operational leaders and senior stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience managing and developing multi-disciplinary project teams
  • A technical degree in engineering, mining, geoscience, or metallurgy, or a business degree in commerce, economics, finance, or a related discipline
  • Deep understanding of mining operations, asset lifecycle management, value driver frameworks, and major program delivery
  • Practical knowledge of AI tools and the ability to apply them appropriately in a professional context, including to support analysis, research, and the development of client deliverables
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to both technical and executive audiences (verbal and written)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • High levels of personal drive, resilience, and commercial acumen
  • This role may require travel to client and FTI offices

Compensation

Minimum Pay: $122,500

Maximum Pay: $162,000

Compensation Disclosure: The compensation range reflects potential base salary for the role and is inclusive of Superannuation. Determination of actual salary is based on a combination of relevant factors such as market considerations, business needs, and an individual’s location, skills, level of experience and qualifications.
