Green Light is partnering up with a leading company to engage IBM App Mainframe Support Consultant to maintain and support critical enterprise batch processing systems and DB2 database environments. The role requires strong expertise in managing z/OS mainframe infrastructure, JCL scripting, DB2 on z/OS, and enterprise-level performance tuning. The ideal candidate will ensure the ongoing stability, security, and performance of our mainframe operations supporting Java-based batch applications.
This role does require an active AGSVA baseline clearance at a minimum. Australian Citizens willing to attain to take a baseline clearance is acceptable.
Responsibilities
- Ensure stability and high availability of the z/OS mainframe environment hosting mission-critical workloads.
- Monitor system resources, IPL operations, and apply system maintenance, patches, and upgrades as required.
- Participate in incident management, RCA, and preventative maintenance planning.
DB2 on z/OS Support
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for DB2 databases on z/OS in collaboration with DB2 DBAs.
- Resolve SQL and system-level DB2 errors, support schema changes, and assist in performance optimization.
- Support database change deployments in test and production environments.
JCL and Batch Job Management
- Maintain and troubleshoot JCL scripts for enterprise batch processes.
- Analyze job execution, resolve scheduling conflicts and job failures, and optimize execution flow.
- Review and resolve SYSOUT and abend logs to ensure batch job integrity.
Data Set Management
- Allocate, manage, backup, and restore VSAM and non-VSAM data sets required by batch jobs.
- Ensure data integrity, retention compliance, and efficient storage utilization.
Mainframe Security Administration
- Administer security rules and access controls using RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.
- Implement least-privilege access principles, conduct access audits, and manage user profiles.
- z/OS Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Monitor system performance metrics (SMF, RMF) to identify bottlenecks or resource contention.
- Recommend and implement tuning strategies to optimize CPU usage, I/O throughput, and batch job turnaround times.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with IBM z/OS mainframe systems administration or support.
- Deep knowledge of JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA-7).
- Proficiency with DB2 on z/OS and understanding of Java batch processing in mainframe environments.
- Strong skills in RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret for mainframe security.
- Experience in SMF data analysis and system-level tuning.
- Solid understanding of mainframe storage concepts and disaster recovery practices.
