Primary objective

Lead the Water Resources Division water drilling and pump testing operations to achieve the highest quality and standard

in a safe and efficient manner for the assessment, development and monitoring of the Territory’s water resources to deliver

policy, advice and regulation for the sustainable use of water.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead the water drilling and test pumping operations aligned to the department’s priorities.

2. In liaison with the Manager Groundwater Assessment, deliver annual work plans that demonstrate the effective delivery

of drilling services for internal and external stakeholders.

3. Ensure and embed best practise techniques and standards in water bore drilling and testing operations.

4. Provide technical bore drilling advice to the division and the department.

5. Ensure work practices conform to Government policy and Work Health Safety standards for the operation and

maintenance of drilling assets.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. A Certificate in Groundwater Technology or relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent, or

extensive experience in the water well drilling industry.

2. Hold, as a minimum, a current unrestricted Northern Territory Class 2 Water Well Driller’s Licence or equivalent.

3. Proven experience managing and providing technical support to field based operations.

4. Experience in planning, and management of staff resources.

5. Experience in operational, financial and personnel aspects of technical based work unit.

6. Experience and understanding of the drilling and/or water resource investigation sector.

7. Experience of logistical planning for remote area operations.

8. Working knowledge of purchasing and contract management procedures in accordance with the Procurement Act and

Guidelines.

Desirable

1. Hold a current NT Drivers Licence, Multi Combination level or Heavy Rigid for a minimum of 12 months with the

experience and capability to obtain a Multi Combination Licence.
