Primary objective
Provides high level advice on Honours and Awards to the Northern Territory Police Force (NTPF), as well as the coordination of Honours
and Awards events with respect to recognition and ceremonial matters.
Context statement
The Honours and Awards section of the Northern Territory Police Force is dedicated to recognising the exceptional efforts of our first
responders and support personnel. Honours, awards, and medals formally recognise individual achievements, reinforce standards, and
promote a culture of excellence.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Project manage all aspects of significant ceremonial and event coordination including booking appropriate venues, catering, RSVPs
and processing of related invoices in NTG Pay.
2. Prepare comprehensive briefings, including invitations, running sheets, scripts, speech notes, guides, order of proceedings and
ceremonial programs for each ceremony and/or event taking place.
3. Coordinate to a high standard all aspects of internal and national honours and awards for NTPF, including establishing new
recognition systems if required.
4. Conduct medal eligibility checks in terms of probity, service dates, and leave without pay periods.
5. Process recognition requirements for employees who are resigning or retiring from the organisation.
6. Monitor and maintain accurate records in Territory Records Manager (TRM) and other agency databases such as Assessment
Development and Personnel Training (ADAPT) and Personnel Information and Payroll System (PIPS).
7. Provide expert advice to NTPF employees and external stakeholders on matters such as order of precedence, forms of address,
correct salutations, dress code requirements, flag protocol, and use of insignia and emblems.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven successful experience in project or event management.
2. Proven organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and demands, while
maintaining strong attention to accuracy and detail.
3. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, proofreading skills and ability to prepare high quality documents.
4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with people of diverse cultures
both within and outside of government.
5. Comprehensive computer skills including word processing, excel spreadsheets, maintaining accurate records in data bases, records
management and email.
6. Ability to problem solve with flexibility and agility while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
7. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of government procurement guidelines and finance procedures.
Desirable
1. Knowledge and understanding of the Australian Honours System.
2. Knowledge and understanding on protocol-related event management advice.
3. Able to work outside of regular business hours when required and have a current NT Driver’s licence.
