Primary Objective
The Assistant Broiler Breeder Manager supports the operational performance, compliance, and continuous improvement of 15 broiler breeder rearing and laying farms. The role ensures production targets are achieved while maintaining high standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, quality assurance, safety, and cost control.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management
- Monitor body weight, uniformity, feed and water consumption
- Review mortality, culls, egg production and egg quality
- Analyse weekly and monthly production data and implement corrective actions
- Ensure management aligns with breed standards and company procedures
- Be involved in all flock livestock key activities both for rearing & laying
Leadership and People Development
- Provide leadership and coaching to 12 Farm Managers
- Promote a culture of safety, welfare and accountability
- Support recruitment, training and performance management
- Monitor labour efficiency and workforce planning
Animal Welfare and Biosecurity
- Ensure compliance with welfare standards and industry codes
- Conduct regular farm inspections and welfare assessments
- Enforce strict biosecurity across all sites
- Investigate disease events, elevated mortality or welfare concerns
Quality and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with biosecurity, food safety, environmental and WHS requirements
- Support internal and external audits and close corrective actions
- Oversee sampling programs including environmental, egg, water and feed testing
- Ensure correct sample collection, labelling, storage and submission
- Maintain accurate records and investigate any adverse results
- Ensure Farm Managers are trained in correct sampling procedures
Cost and Resource Management
- Support the monitoring feed usage, labour, utilities and consumables
- Ensure the department remains within budget
- Identify efficiency and cost improvement opportunities
Maintenance and Infrastructure
- Support preventative maintenance programs
- Identify and prioritise repair and capital requirements
- Ensure equipment and environmental systems operate effectively
Communication and Reporting
- Provide regular performance reports to the Broiler Breeder Manager
- Facilitate performance review meetings with Farm Managers
- Ensure accurate and timely data reporting
- Liaise with technical, veterinary, hatchery and feed supplier
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS)
Production
- Rearing body weight within ±3% of breed standard
- Uniformity at transfer ≥ 80%
- Hen-day production and chicks/Hen Housed at or above target
- Mortality within company standards
Welfare and Biosecurity
- 100% compliance in welfare and biosecurity audits
- Zero major biosecurity breaches
- Welfare or disease issues investigated within 24 hours
Quality and Compliance
- 100% completion of scheduled sampling programs
- Zero missed or late samples
- All adverse results investigated and actions completed within 48 hours
- Successful completion of all audits
Safety and People
- Zero Lost Time Injuries
- 100% completion of required training
- Annual performance reviews completed
Cost Control
- Feed usage within ±2% of standard
- Labour and operating costs within budget
Skills And Experience
- Minimum 5 years poultry production experience (broiler breeder preferred)
- This is a Senior management position suited to an ambitious person seeking to advance their career
- Experience managing multiple sites and teams
- Strong knowledge of breeder performance and flock management
- Understanding of biosecurity, welfare and WHS
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Current driver’s licence
