Artificial Intelligence Engineer

We are looking for a senior AI Engineer to join Horizon Digital's internal AI team. You will build production AI applications for some of Australia's largest enterprises, lead client conversations, and shape how we deliver AI across the consultancy.

About Horizon Digital

Horizon Digital is a Perth-based AI and custom software consultancy of around 70 people. We are an AWS Generative AI Competency Partner, delivering AI and integrated software for Tier One Australian enterprises across mining, energy, finance, healthcare, and government. We build production-grade AI, not prototypes that go nowhere.

Who We Are Looking For

Engineers who can build the foundation that AI sits on top of, as well as the AI layer itself.

We are open to backgrounds across software engineering, data science, and machine learning. What matters is that you can build the underlying system, not just the model. The APIs, the data flows, the integrations, the architecture that makes AI usable inside an enterprise. If you have data science or ML expertise alongside that engineering capability, that is a strong combination.

The Team

This role sits inside the AI team led by our Head of AI, who came up through software engineering and moved into AI delivery. Designing AI architectures, embedding LLMs into enterprise workflows, mentoring engineers. We are looking for someone who can operate at that same level. End-to-end ownership, from system design through to AI integration.

What You Will Do

• Design and build AI-powered applications end to end, covering APIs, microservices, data flows, LLM integration, and agentic workflows
• Lead client conversations with senior stakeholders at Tier One Australian enterprises, understanding business problems first and designing the right thing
• Work with agentic AI in production using LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, MCP, RAG pipelines, vector stores, and prompt engineering
• Mentor and lift the team through code reviews, architecture decisions, and shaping how we deliver AI across the consultancy
• Contribute to our internal AI development methodology, built from real production experience

What We Are Looking For

• Strong engineering foundations, with several years building production systems in Python, TypeScript, or similar. APIs, microservices, cloud, CI/CD
• Real production AI delivery, not just experimental work that never reached production
• Hands-on experience with agentic frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or CrewAI, plus RAG pipelines and prompt engineering
• Solid cloud experience on AWS or Azure, with modern engineering practices
• Exceptional communication skills, comfortable explaining technical detail to non-technical audiences
• A genuine curiosity about where AI is going, with side projects, experiments, and opinions to match

Nice to Have

• Experience working with enterprise clients in consultancy or professional services
• Background in mining, energy, finance, or government sectors
• Exposure to MCP, Model Context Protocol, or other emerging agentic standards
• AWS certifications, particularly Generative AI or Solutions Architect
