One of Australia's most established specialist power generation and energy infrastructure businesses is seeking an experienced engineering leader to take accountability for electrical engineering and asset performance across a nationally distributed power and transmission portfolio. The role carries responsibility for technical leadership, team performance, and the delivery of engineering outcomes across the full project and asset lifecycle — shaping engineering strategy, driving reliability, and ensuring fit-for-purpose solutions across a complex and varied national portfolio.

Team Overview: The electrical engineering team operates across a nationally distributed portfolio of power generation and transmission assets. The incoming Group Manager will be expected to set clear strategic direction, serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical challenges, and build the team capability and partner relationships required to deliver engineering outcomes that are reliable, compliant, and commercially grounded.

Job Overview: An experienced power systems engineering leader with demonstrated capability across project scoping, technical review, asset management, and project delivery is needed to drive engineering excellence across a national portfolio — balancing technical depth with commercial awareness and a practical approach to delivery constraints.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Strategy & Governance

  • Shape and drive engineering strategies, policies, and procedures that optimise outcomes and embed continuous improvement across the portfolio
  • Champion robust risk management and quality assurance across the engineering lifecycle
  • Establish and maintain engineering governance frameworks that support safe, reliable, and compliant asset performance

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex power systems challenges across the team and broader business
  • Connect the team to specialist expertise and provide trusted technical counsel across design, specification, and procurement activities
  • Set the technical standard and ensure engineering outputs are fit for purpose across a varied and demanding portfolio

Asset & Portfolio Reliability

  • Strengthen reliability outcomes across the national power and electrical transmission portfolio
  • Apply OEM insights and proactive risk management to support safe and sustainable asset performance across the lifecycle
  • Develop and implement asset maintenance strategies that balance reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness

Partner & Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external engineering partners, contractors, and suppliers
  • Ensure collaborative and effective project delivery across a complex external supply chain
  • Manage partner performance with discipline and commercial rigour

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure alignment with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards across engineering activities
  • Maintain a clear and confident approach to compliance obligations across a nationally distributed portfolio
  • Monitor regulatory developments and ensure engineering practices remain current and compliant

Commercial & Resource Management

  • Manage engineering budgets and resources across the team and portfolio
  • Apply a commercial lens to engineering decisions to identify solutions that create long-term value
  • Balance technical requirements against practical delivery constraints and commercial realities

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related power systems discipline
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical engineering teams across power generation or electrical transmission portfolios
  • Strong capability across project scoping, technical review, and project management in a power systems context
  • Sound understanding of compliance requirements, asset maintenance strategy development, and reliability frameworks
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance technical depth against practical delivery and commercial constraints
  • Experience managing external engineering partners, contractors, and suppliers across complex project portfolios
  • Eligibility to work in Australia
