The vision for Nursing and Midwifery at The Sutherland Hospital is to foster a united and high performing workforce that delivers compassionate, person-centred care to our community through transformational leadership, collaboration, education and holistic clinical practice. The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) – Gurung Ward (plays a key role in supporting the delivery of safe, evidence-based and high-quality patient care through the coordination, delivery and evaluation of clinical education at the ward level across Paediatrics and Neonatal specialties. The CNE facilitates orientation, onboarding and transition support for new, casual and undergraduate nursing staff, while identifying and responding to the ongoing educational and professional development needs of the existing workforce to promote clinical excellence and staff capability.

Working collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Manager, multidisciplinary team and Nursing and Midwifery Education team, the CNE provides clinical supervision and education at the point of care to strengthen clinical decision-making, critical thinking and evidence-based practice in line with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia standards and decision making frameworks. Within Gurung Ward, the role supports staff capability in caring for patients with acute and complex needs, including recognition and escalation of deterioration, medication safety, infection prevention and effective discharge planning, while contributing to quality improvement, clinical governance and a positive culture of learning and teamwork.

Selection Criteria

1. Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.

2. Holds a relevant clinical or education post registration qualification or 3 years clinical experience in the field.

3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills

4. Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles).

5. Demonstrated clinical teaching & facilitation skills.

6. Demonstrated knowledge of competency attainment and assessment.

7. Computer literacy and understanding of hospital information systems.
